In the early 1950s, a number of concrete constructions (bunkers, trenches, machine gun nests, news centres, command posts) were installed as guard lines for approximately 620 km long, and 15 km wide in the border settlements of Őrség and Göcsej. The Southern defence Line was the part of preparation for World War III. Stalin issued an order to prepare for the attack of the imperialists, and for the occupation of Western Europe. The enemies of the system were deported, two-line wire barriers were erected at the border, a mine lock was installed, and a large-scale fortress system was created. In 1958, the Hungarian-Yugoslav relations normalized, and the dismantling of the defence system began, which was not finished. Most of the fortification system have remained in South Zala. During their excavation, four fortifications became accessible, the former trenches were renovated and information boards were placed. At the Cultural Centre in Páka, we can learn about this period of our history.
