Miško Kranjec (1908–1983) who was born as Mihael Kranjec, was a Slovenian writer.
Kranjec was born in the village of Nagypalina in what was then in Zala County of the Kingdom of Hungary in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, as the son of Mihalj Kranjec, a Vend speaking village tailor. He was one of the most prolific Slovenian writers of the 20th century. His work can be described as relatively unique in Slovenian literature. In the 1930s he began to publish short stories in literary Slovenian. His themes were primarily taken from the lives of Muravidék, people who lived there and cultivated the earth for every day existence. In his works, we can read about the everyday lives of the peasants travelling on muddy roads.
Along with the great Hungarian writers, the effect of foreigners such as Tolstoy, Chekhov and Gorky can be seen in his works. An exhibition was organized in the writer's birth house in Nagypalina. Here, in addition to Kranjec's personal subjects, manuscripts, his library, and writings about him by other writers can also be seen. You can also admire Kranjec's oil paintings and photos. Moreover, you can also buy local souvenirs in the small museum. Visitors sensitive to culture love visiting this house, cultural that is a special memorial place for the local people, as well.
